President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed into law the DAR-initiated resolution to observe Constitution Week in 1956. Today, the 230th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution will be commemorated September 17–23, 2017 by National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Snow Campaign Chapter.
September 17, 2017, marks the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention; and it is fitting and proper to accord official recognition to this magnificent document and its memorable anniversary; and to the patriotic celebrations which will commemorate the occasion; Public Law 915 guarantees the issuing of a proclamation each year by the President of the United States of America designating September 17 through 23 as Constitution Week.
The weeklong commemoration of America’s most important document is one of our country’s least known official observances. Our Constitution stands as a testament to the tenacity of Americans throughout history to maintain their liberties and freedom, and to ensure those inalienable rights to every American.
NSDAR, Snow Campaign Chapter, will observe Constitution Week with voter registration drives, “bells across America” participation by various groups and churches at 4:00 p.m. September 17, with press mentions, mayoral signed proclamations, acknowledgements from both federal and state elected officials, and constitutional displays at various sites.
