District 28 Representative Eric Bedingfield will give up his seat in the legislature early next year to accept one of the top political jobs in South Carolina.
Bedingfield has represented parts of Simpsonville, Ware Place and Fork Shoals since 2007. Previously he served on Greenville County Council. Greenville Technical College has hired him to be their Director of Government Affairs after an exhaustive search. He replaces the retiring Susan Hoag. Bedingfield and Greenville Technical College negotiated the January start date to allow Bedingfield to finish the work of the House Opioid Abuse Prevention Study Committee, which Bedingfield chairs.
Representative Bedingfield’s son Josh died of overdose in 2016 after years of combating opioid addiction. Additional legislation is expected in the 2018 legislative session dealing with this nationwide epidemic from the House Opioid Abuse Prevention Study Committee.
Republican and Democratic Primaries will be held for the seat next Spring followed by a special election for the year of his unexpired term.
