By Scott Keeler
Season two of the 864Living podcast begins on Thursday, Sept. 7. Our featured guest for the season premiere is Furman University Athletic Director Mike Buddie.
New host Scott Keeler talks with Buddie about the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament regional that was held at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in March. Buddie was part of a group that spearheaded the effort to bring the NCAA Tournament back to Greenville for the first time since 2002, with Furman and the Southern Conference serving as host.
Despite having only five months to prepare for the event, it was a successful one that made a significant financial impact for Greenville. It was such a success that the NCAA Women’s Tournament “Sweet 16” will be held at the BSWA in 2020 and another NCAA Men’s Tournament regional is scheduled there in 2022.
Buddie will also discuss his time living in Greenville and working at Furman, where he was hired in the summer of 2015. Buddie is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who entered the world of college athletics following his pro baseball career. Prior to Furman, Buddie served as senior associate athletic director for administration/development at Wake Forest for 10 years.
