Eddie Case, notable community leader and Simpsonville City Administrator died following a “massive heart attack” late Saturday. Case was long time servant of the county of Greenville serving as City Administrator to both the cities of Simpsonville and Fountain Inn.
A life-long resident in the Golden Strip, Case also provided assistance as Chairman of the Neighborhood Housing Corporation of Greenville, past president of Fountain Inn Chamber of Commerce, Fountain Inn Chamber of Commerce board member, Chairman of Greenville County Redevelopment Authority, Fountain Inn city council, Trustee at North Greenville University, and effective supporter and fundraiser for the Fountain Inn Museum.
Mayor Janice Curtis released the following statement on Facebook:
It is a sad day in our community. We have lost a tremendous asset to our community, Mr. Eddie Case.
I received word early this morning that he suffered a massive heart attack and passed away shortly thereafter.
Eddie was a great Christian man and my friend for decades. He loved Simpsonville and Fountain Inn and was grateful to serve both as City Administrator.
Please join me and my family as we pray for his family today and days ahead for their comfort.
A number of Golden Strip community leaders have expressed dismay at the sudden loss on social media.
Simpsonville City Councilwoman Jenn Hulehan posted this message:
It is with a heavy heart that I share the terrible news that Mr. Eddie Case, our City Administrator, has passed away.
Eddie was well loved and respected. He had great character and a big heart.
We at the City of Simpsonville join his family and many friends in mourning the loss of a great man and offer them our thoughts and prayers in their time of grieving.
From District 27 Representative Garry Smith:
I will truly miss my friend, Eddie Case. I am blessed by having known him for so long, and his loss will leave a hole in my life. My prayers go out to Kathy Case, Shannon and Crystal.
Fountain Inn Mayor Sam Lee:
I am completely devastated by the sudden loss of Eddie Case. Eddie started with the city by serving on City Council and then became the City Administrator, a position he held for 10 years. I had the fortune of working with Eddie for the first year and a half of my term. He was a great mentor and became a great friend over that time.
No one could ever question his love for the city of Fountain Inn. He would never take credit for it, but he was truly the architect for all of the growth we’ve seen in Fountain Inn over the past few years. Even after taking the City Administrator job in Simpsonville, Eddie was always there if I needed some guidance or advice.
Please keep the Case family in your thoughts and prayers. This loss will be felt by our community for years to come.
The Community Edge will post updates as they become available.
