FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FISO Has New President
Fountain Inn – The Fountain Inn Symphony, resident orchestra of the Younts Center for Performing Arts, has had a change at the helm. Don Nickson, president of the orchestra for the last two years, has yielded the chairmanship to Brian Gencarelli, himself a former president of the organization.
According to the FISO bylaws, a president’s term is two years. “We organized the board in such a way so as to keep the leadership roles fresh, “ Nickson said. “And it’s as if we are breaking in a new head man, because Brian has been an integral part of FISO for more than five years, serving in both administrative and performance roles.”
Gencarelli is principal bass of the Fountain Inn Symphony, in addition to being on the board of directors. He is a well-known music educator in the upstate.
Director of Orchestra at Mauldin Middle and Mauldin High School, Gencarelli is highly acquainted with orchestral inner workings. As a professional double bassist, he has performed with a full range of orchestras in North and South Carolina, including the Greenville, Asheville, Charlotte, Charleston, the South Carolina Philarmonic, and others.
He is also Affiliate Professor of Double Bass at North Greenville University and conducts various workshops and clinics throughout the state.
In addition to teaching and performing, he is a luthier specializing in double bass. His shop, Gencarelli Bass Works and Fine String Instruments, LLC., is located in Fountain Inn, SC.
The Fountain Inn Symphony’s upcoming season features performances on September 16, November 10, and April 14. Three youth concerts are also scheduled for March 7, aimed at elementary school audiences, with no admission charge.
