Simpsonville City Council passed the City budget beginning 7/01/17 last night without raising taxes like the previous city council. The budget maintains garbage pick-up for the new “Core Central Business District”, defined as businesses fronting Main Street from Garrison Road to Chancellors Park. City trash pick up will also continue for mobile home parks and duplexes. These businesses will receive one roll-out container per unit to be picked up once a week and will pay a $34 per month Public Works fee per unit.
Simpsonville will no longer be responsible for any other commercial trash pick-up outside this narrowly defined Core Central District of 160 businesses. All other business have until July 28 to make arrangements with private vendors for trash service.
This compromise among council members came after heated meetings and input from the business community and Mobile Home Park owners.
The additional monies to continue these services came from the City Administrator’s 2017-18 Contingency Fund and from surplus funds from this fiscal year. Simpsonville will resume picking up limbs this fall as part of this budget. Residents will still be responsible for bagging leaves.
