Somewhere is the Tater Shed, and at 5 o’clock on May 13 it will become paradise for the night.
Simpsonville’s upcoming Raise the Roof event hasn’t taken place yet, but it has already exceeded its fundraising goal. The event has raised $12,550 in sponsorships alone, and tickets sales are still incoming. Upstate Podiatry is the presenting sponsor, and gave an impressive $3500 to the cause.
The funds raised will go toward a roof structure for the Amphitheater stage at the Tater Shed. Located behind Simpsonville’s historic school building, the Tater Shed has become a popular place for outdoor concerts and events. By adding a stage cover, the venue will better serve and attract musicians for future events.
The Raise the Roof event itself is a launch into summer, and headlines a popular Jimmy Buffett tribute band called The Caribbean Chillers. Food trucks will be at the event serving both food and spirits, creating a bona-fide ‘Margaritaville.’
Mayor Janice Curtis says this will be one of many fundraising events for the Arts Center at the historic school. The Simpsonville Arts Foundation along with a group of dedicated residents have worked tirelessly to promote the arts in Simpsonville, and the momentum from this event is expected to propel their efforts forward.
Stephanie Kelley, a former SAFi board member who recently served on the city’s committee review of the Arts Center, shared her thoughts on the excitement around the event. “The Tater Shed has special meaning to me and it will be even better with the improvements. I am grateful to see the overwhelming support and donations for the Raise the Roof event.”
The event is a coordinated effort by the City of Simpsonville, the Simpsonville Area Chamber of Commerce, and a large group of volunteers.
Raise the Roof will be held on Saturday, May 13, with a kickoff at 5pm and the band taking the stage at 6pm. Tickets are available in advance online, at City Hall, or at the Chamber office. The cost is $10 each, and guests 12 and under are free.
The Tater Shed is located behind the historic school building located at 110 Academy Street, and guests may park in the City Park lots or at the First Baptist Simpsonville lots across from the school.
